IRSA Daily Living Expo

PME exhibited at the IRSA Daily Living Expo on the 18th and 19th of May

The stands provided a great opportunity to test out our range of controlsThe IRSA Daily Living Expo is Australia’s foremost exhibition for Rehabilitation and Aged care Equipment with over 2000 prescribers, therapists, influencers, end users and cares in attendance. This year it was run over Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of May at Rosehill Racecourse, Sydney. In 2011, over 100 exhibitors displayed a wide range of products and services. On display was the latest in assistive technology, mobility solutions, pressure care, employment support, accessible recreation/holiday ideas, modified motor vehicles and a lot more. Among these was a stand from PME Auto Conversions.

If you had the chance to come to the expo you wouldn’t have missed our stand. Covering the largest space occupied by any exhibitor (we like to make an impact), the PME stand displayed several of our cars, attention-grabbing interactive displays as well as a few other attractions.Vehicles on show included;
  • Bill was busy all day explaining the products on displayA twin-turbo BMW with Footsteer
  • Bill’s own red 56 Chevrolet pick-up hot rod with custom chrome electronic radial hand controls and custom polished stainless steel Wymo roof-mounted wheelchair hoist
  • Anthony’s wildly modified Can-am Spyder with PME designed hand brake, footplates and electro-mechanical park brake
  • Rob’s Space Drive Polaris RZR
  • Capital Special Vehicles work closely with PME and used our stand at the exhibition to unveil their brand new demonstration vehicle complete with flat-floor, docking systems, side and rear entry ramps, airbag suspension with squatting capability for entry and exit, LED party lights and full-on sound system!
  • Toyota Porte with self-drive turn out seat
  • PME Commodore with ABI loader wheelchair storage system
  • The PME Space Drive electronic mobility controls evaluation vehicle, Evaluator #1
  • VW transporter modified for wheelchair self-drive with space drive controls
  • Capital Special Vehicles also brought along a wheelchair passenger configuration VW Caddy

Our interactive displays have to be seen to be believed. Decked out in hot rod green, red and blue, and covered with flashing lights, they showcased a large selection of our driving controls, from spinner knobs to electronic mobility controls, in an interactive way in which anyone could get behind the wheel and test them out. Screens were also mounted on the stands with videos playing that described the controls in front of the viewer.

Occupational Therapists and Customers could test out our products for themselvesThe newly imported Paravan wheelchair was on show. We consider this to be the best wheelchair for self-drive and it received a great response. This wheelchair is the most flexible we’ve seen; adjustable on every feasible axis. It was bound to impress. If you want to check it out, we have a demo model at PME.

A key feature of the Expo was the free Clinical Education Program. PME was given the opportunity to present our own seminar as experts in driving adaptions. Titled ‘Pushing the boundaries’ the PME seminar showcased some of our more outstanding clients and explained some of our more technologically advanced solutions. The blurb reads:

“Pushing the envelope. Doing things no one thought was possible. It happens every day. We see it happen. In our industry, people with physical challenges exceed expectations by driving their own vehicle independently. Triple amputee, quadriplegic, muscular dystrophy… Driving?… Done. And it’s not just wheelchair accessible vans or commodores with hand controls. New vehicle adaption technology, engineering experience and expertise, and in-depth consultations are allowing us to push the envelope further. People with physical challenges are versatile and adaptive, and are living their preferred lifestyles. It’s all about thinking ‘What is possible?’ This presentation will introduce you to some of these new technologies and showcase some amazing people pushing the envelope”

The Daily Living Expo was a big success. We hope you had a chance to visit our stand. Just in case you missed it, or if you wanted to see it all again, we took a few photos that you can view in the following gallery.
