 Wheels on wheels

A self-drive conversion allows people with higher-end disabilities to independently enter a vehicle, position themselves into the driving position, and drive away confidently. Wheelchair self-drive is ideal for those unable to transfer as they can drive from their wheelchair.

With a wheelchair self-drive conversion it is as easy as A, B, C to be on your way. Entering from the side or rear of the vehicle, the wheelchair driver operates the automatic door and wheelchair hoist or ramp by keypad. The wheelchair driver then rolls directly into the driver’s position and is locked into place. From there it is a matter of taking hold of their driving controls and picking their destination.

The options

Vehicle modifications for a wheelchair self-drive conversion include;

  • Keypad operated remote door entry and hoist operation

  • Wheelchair locking mechanism in driver’s position

  • Lowered floor

  • Wheelchair channel

  • Suitable driving controls for the individual

These modifications are intended to give the self-drive user total driving independence.

The unique Lifestyle Wheelchair is ideal for use in a wheelchair Self-Drive conversion. This electric wheelchair features a power ‘rise and fall’ seat system to change seat height so that vision through the windscreen is optimised, and a central docking port for an automatic tie-down system.
